On the October 5, 1855, in that part of the town of Willemstad known as Scharloo, a meeting was held for the purpose of making arrangements for the consecration of IGUALDAD lodge no. 653. Simon Hart having been appointed temporary Provincial Grand Master, called a meeting for the purpose of consecrating the Lodge on 28th of the same month of October, 1855.
This meeting was held on that date October 28, 1855, at a premise in Scharloo belonging to J.A. Haseth and specially furnished for this purpose. The Lodge having been consecrated, Isaac Debrot IZ was installed as its first Master. Mind you!! All three of the principal officers of the newly consecrated lodge were former members of LA PERFECTA IGUALDAD lodge no. 10.
Considering that the name Igualdad given to this lodge and the language used in the convocation, it should cause no surprise that the lodge work was carried out in Spanish. Particularly odd situation, you have a lodge under the English constitution which does the lodge work in Spanish. As you can now guess, the Spanish comes as a remnant from La Perfecta Igualdad.
In the year 1863 by resolution of the United Grand Lodge of England IGUALDAD lodge received the number 653.
